RAGLAN: From the Peninsula to the Crimea
RAGLAN: From the Peninsula to the Crimea

1993, Arms & Armour, Hardback, J.Sweetman. 384pp. 12 maps.16pp b/w plates.

MINT: Carefully read once, no marks. D/J unclipped, mint.

The first full biography of Raglan. The omission until this book largely a result of the scathing criticism Raglan suffered for his conduct of theCrimean war and the social changes then and since which saw the sysytem he prospered under as deeply flawed and those in it as useless at best, probably corrupt and both at worst. Sweetman paints an altogether different and unexpected picture of a personally irreproachable individual whose resolve and careful handling of the situation held the fragile anti-Russian alliance together in the field. A unique insight into the man and a piece of 'revisionism' well done.
